The Mantovani Castorina Foundation was founded in 2007 by an alliance between doctors and professionals of the DAMA, (Disabled Advanced Medical Assistance) department of excellence of the San Paolo Hospital in Milan, dedicated to the care and hospital medical reception for people with severe intellectual and neuromotor disabilities, and a group of families who have faced and are facing the challenge of severe and very serious disability. Together, they decided to use their skills and energies to generate cultural change and to tackle disability in a new and integrated way. FMC adopts the same multidisciplinary intervention approach outside the hospital, embracing all areas of life of frail people. An innovative model, where at the center is the “person” with a disability, of course, but a person with their own needs. The challenge is to move the axis of protection of disability from mere medical assistance to an overall action, to try together to overcome the fragmentation of services that characterizes the world of disability.

These associates offer volunteering and training services in soft skills and support the welfare services of the rural communities, especially when these include Individuals, Groups, and Communities. Through the development of our volunteering activities, we have enabled people to develop skills and capacities in which under different circumstances they would not have the ability to do so, as they have managed to develop the feeling of belongingness, inclusion, innovation, and creativity. The organization also has experience in hosting students from EU countries and operates a hosting facility where students can come and have a comfortable and safe environment during their stay. We host more than 500 people every year in Paphos in different EU projects. OPEI established in 2017 a cooperation agreement with the European Capital of Culture in order to promote the work of PAFOS 2017 in our Region and abroad.
